Dakota is a Sydney based dancer who is passionate about the arts. we sat down with her to chat about life in 2020 and her biggest strength. 

How are you feeling today?

today i am feeling passionate and vibrant. 

what makes you unique?

i am a trained ballet and modern dancer. i love to move and explore different forms of expression.

what is your biggest strength?

once i put my mind to something, i do it.

how would you describe what life is like for young people today?

life for young people these days is interesting because we have the most access to information of any generation. the hardest part is using it properly. reading is important, as is fact checking. 

what has 2020 taught you?

2020 has taught me how quickly life changes in the snap of finger 

if you could offer one piece of advice to our audience, what would it be?

make sure what you absorb is real and don’t compare yourself to others and to really think about what you want and do it

Grateful for family and to be living in a country like australia.

positive body image, women understanding their worth and encouraging them to be free.

i’m me and there’s nobody else like me.

what is your biggest strength?

being kind.

how would you describe what life is like for young people today?

fun and adventurous, however social media has created a modern day tool for comparison and this has caused mental health issues. this needs to change.

what has 2020 taught you?

slow and simple is best.

if you could offer one piece of advice to our audience, what would it be?

don’t waste another precious second being at war with your body, just embrace it

adual is a melbourne-based artist. migrating to australia when she was 7, adual is passionate about normalising talking about mental health issues within the african community.

“my biggest strength is probably my ability to bounce back, especially when things become unclear.”

meet ciara, a youth outreach worker specialising in community development, supporting refugees and youth justice reform.

“i think my biggest strength is probably my determination, if i see the injustices that are happening within the system, it makes me so angry and so compelled to do something about it.”

currently studying at the Victorian College of the Arts, pippa is a photographer who’s work mostly documents youth culture and politics.

“i’ve been trying to take more of a political stance with my images and document things that i am passionate about and that i think need to be interpreted by others.”

shanaya is a recent bachelor of science graduate, majoring in psychology. an indian/australian, shanaya embraces both her cultures and strives to always embrace her individuality. 
 
“i am proud to be Indian/Australian because i embrace both sides of my culture, i balance the two really well.”

born and raised in the kimberly, obby is a proud bunuba woman and dancer. her advice to the youth of today? 

“find your people, your support group and know that you are beautiful and perfect just the way you are.”

ailene is a content creator who is passionate about asian representation in the media. she currently chronicles her life through her instagram and youtube. 

“when i grew up i would never see any asian girls on tv, until i saw poh on Master Chef – that was mind blowing”

Tokaya is a painter who uses art as a form of self-expression. She explores themes of identity through her art by painting self-portraits and her family.

“There are many forms of self- expression through creativity, fashion, and the way you move through the world.”

Peggy is a student who is passionate about learning more and strengthening the mental health of young people, in particular, girls lifting up and supporting other girls. She talks about the importance of mindfulness and having hobbies that give you a break from everyday stresses, for Peggy she uses sewing.

“Even if it doesn’t look like I expected it to, 2020 has been a year of growth for me. 2020 has enabled me to find what makes me happy and what doesn’t.”
